When an elephant is born in the circus, the circus folk tie it up with a thin piece of rope attached to a small stake in the ground. Naturally, the baby elephant wants to roam, cavort, kick ass, be an elephant. But it is too weak to break free of the rope. Soon the elephant is big and strong, strong enough to do whatever it wants. But having failed just once, and not realizing its own strength, it never pulls the rope. It never even tries, and as a result, it spends its entire life being led around by a string.
